Teenage tennis star Caroline Wozniacki could reach her first Grand Slam quarter final if she emerges victorious today
Fresh from her fifth career singles title at Eastbourne, Caroline Wozniacki has powered her way through to the fourth round of the Wimbledon tennis championship where she will meet German Sabine Lisicki today.
Tennis sensation Wozniacki has previously only ever reached the third round of Wimbledon, entering last year’s competition ranked 31.
However, this year the 18-year-old has seen a flurry of WTA wins and entered the championship ranked at number 9, before defeating Russian Maria Kirilenko and Spanish Annabel Medina Garrigues in straight sets.Unseeded Lisnicki is not likely to be a walkover, having already beaten French Open champion Svetlana Kuznetsova last week.
Lisnicki won her first WTA title in Charleston, U.S.A, last year, overcoming Wozniacki in straight sets. But in their only other meeting at the 2008 Australian Open, Wozniacki triumphed in three sets, leaving them on an even standing.
‘I hope that this time I can get off to a good start and play my game,’ said Wozniacki, who was excited about the prospect of reaching a Grand Slam quarterfinal.
