A sunny and warm July did not quite crack the record books

Sizzling temperatures throughout Europe in July also meant a very warm month for Denmark, according to national weather service DMI.

According to the agency, this month is set to be one of the five hottest on record with an average temperature of 18.8 degrees through yesterday.

It was also one of the sunniest Julys ever with more than 260 hours of sunshine, compared to the modest average of 196 for the month.

This July was still a long way from measuring up to that of 2006, where the record was set with a daily average temperature of 19.8 degrees.
