As the date draws closer and speculation gains momentum it seems the US are willing to back Rasmussen to lead Nato
Prime Minister Anders Fogh Rasmussen is one step closer to taking the job as Nato Secretary General after an anonymous high-ranking official told Politiken newspaper that the US is willing to support his candidacy.
According to the newspaper, an official announcement on Jaap de Hoop Scheffer’s successor will likely be made at US President Barack Obama’s first Nato meeting in two weeks at the German city of Baden-Baden.
The source said Rasmussen was ‘very close’ to being nominated for the position in light of the Americans’ backing.
