Furniture retailer recalls Leopard child chair because of serious defects with the restraint straps

Parents who own the Leopard brand highchair sold at IKEA stores are being advised to immediately stop using it and to return it to the store where it was purchased for a full refund.

A press release from the department store states there are problems with the snap locks on the plastic chair which can, if defective, cause the seat to fall out from under a child. In addition, the snaps can come loose and children can choke on them if they put them into their mouths.

IKEA stated it has received 11 reports of defective chairs and one report of an injury related to the snap locks.

A spokesperson for the company said that normally all their child seats are tested for safety, but that the Leopard was a new product that had not yet been tested.

'A spokesperson for the company said that normally all their child seats are tested for safety, but that the Leopard was a new product that had not yet been tested.' This seems a bit of a contradictory statement to make. Surley a new product should be rigorously tested before it goes on sale to ensure no-one is injured? This could have lead to the death of a child and IKEA should hang their heads in shame over this.
