Attempt to catch US President Barack Obama’s attention ends in arrest for 20 climate protesters

A group of Greenpeace activists have this morning been arrested for trying to enter a tall building near Copenhagen Airport before the US president’s 8am arrival.

The activists tried to enter the building that houses pharmaceutical company Ferring, not far from the airport, and draw Obama’s attention to climate change problems.

Police prevented them from entering the building and, according the Ritzau news bureau, arrested 12 to 14 of them. Public broadcaster DR reports 20 people were arrested.

Obama’s arrival has forced road closures in and around Copenhagen. He went from the airport to the Bella Center venue where the cities aspiring to host the 2016 Olympic Games, are making presentations to the International Olympic Committee.

Obama and his wife Michelle will meet Prime Minister Lars Løkke Rasmussen and his wife, as well as the royal couple later today before departing at 12.30pm.
