Satirical art group launches poster campaign critical of the crown prince’s desire to join the IOC
Copenhagen has been plastered with risqué posters depicting Crown Prince Frederik and Crown Princess Mary naked, in protest against the prince’s ‘lusting’ to join the International Olympic Committee.
Art duo Surrend, consisting of Jan Egesborg and Pia Bertelsen, created the poster which expresses a political message with sexual undertones.
The poster has two connected motifs, one which shows the naked royal couple and another with a generously proportioned crown prince alone. The latter is entitled IOC and contains words such as ‘dictatorships’, ‘torture’ and ‘old men’.
Jan Egesborg told Ritzau news bureau that the message was to critique the crown prince’s upcoming role in the IOC.
‘IOC is a dangerous club to enter, not least for a royal person. As a member of the IOC you concede that it’s not just about sport but politics on the highest level.'
Egesborg said the poster was a criticism of the IOC’s backing of dictatorships in granting the Olympic Games to countries such as China and Russia.
He conceded the posters’ depiction of the crown prince was provocative, but explained the point of it was to show how the prince became aroused by what the IOC stood for.
