WOMEX, the World Music Exposition, was a resounding triumph this year

One of the biggest dates on the international music and culture calendar, the event rose well above the flailing economy and miserable weather to enjoy the most successful edition in its 15 year history.

Nordic supergroup ´The Great Nordic Band´ kicked off the five-day showcase on October 28th with conferences, trade fairs and live performances split between the city’s Bella Center and Koncerthuset. The festival saw traditional, ethnic, fusion, folk and jazz music from all four corners of the globe comprise 57 live acts.

WOMEX, organised by the World Music Fair, began in 1994 with 200 delegates, a number which has now expanded to 2700 and has seen the spectacle transformed into a kaleidoscopic mixture of the world’s most diverse acts and musical issues. This year a particular focus was music in relation to the environment.

Copenhagen´s staging of WOMEX was deemed so successful that the city will play host to it again in 2010 and 2011.
