Last Danish camp in Kosovo closes after a decade, with remaining soldiers moving to nearby French camp

After 10 years in Kosovo, Danish military installation Camp Olaf Rye was officially closed yesterday, with Defence Minister Søren Gade visiting the camp for the last time during the camp’s farewell ceremony.

Denmark’s remaining 300 soldiers, stationed at the camp in the city of Mitrovica as part of Nato-led forces, will be sent south of the city to the French base of Novo Selo. French and Estonian soldiers stationed at Olaf Rye will also move to the French base.

In February, Danish troops will be further reduced to 180 soldiers, in keeping with the transfer of control over to UN forces and local authorities.

Camp Olaf Rye was the last of several camps in Kosovo established under Danish command.
