Embassy in contact with Iranian authorities in effort to track down missing journalism student

A Danish journalist has disappeared in Iran during a demonstration attended by thousands on the streets of Tehran on Wednesday.

A state-sanctioned rally marking the 30th anniversary of the takeover of the US embassy was attended by thousands and nearby antigovernment protestors organised a counter-rally, clashing with police.

Ekstra Bladet newspaper identified the missing 31-year-old Dane as journalism student Niels Krogsgaard who was working on his final year thesis about Iranian politics.

Worried relatives have left messages of concern on Krogsgaard’s personal profile page on Facebook and the Danish embassy has contacted Iranian authorities to help locate the missing man.

The alarm was raised when the student failed to attend a meeting that was being held at the same time as the demonstrations.
