Iran’s president could be joining other heads of state and world leaders at the COP15 conference

Iranian president, Mahmoud Ahmadinejad has been invited to the UN climate conference in Copenhagen by the Danish ambassador to Tehran, but there is no indication if he will attend.

Ambassador Tomas Anker Christensen presented his credentials to the president on Tuesday and delivered the invite from Prime Minister Lars Løkke Rasmussen.

During the meeting the president said he was eager to expand good relations between the two countries and said such relations should be based on ‘morality and mutual respect’, reports the Fars News Agency.

The two countries have not been without diplomatic stumbling blocks in the recent past.

The Iranian ambassador to Denmark was summoned to report to the Foreign Ministry following the post-election violence in Iran in June.

And back in 2008, the then Danish ambassador to Tehran was summoned by Iranian officials who condemned the reprinting of the Mohammad cartoons.
