Police arrest eight people for political vandalism after they daub the embassy in revolutionary colour
Police in Copenhagen have arrested a number of people for throwing green paint at the Iranian embassy. Two cars with Swedish plates drove past the building on Sunday and the passengers tossed paint onto an outside wall.
Police chased the vehicles and they were eventually stopped on Østerbrogade Street and the occupants detained. Describing the incident as ‘a serious matter’ a police spokesman told Politiken newspaper that the matter was being taken seriously.
Those arrested are said to be young people from Sweden and it is thought that the protest comes ahead of the 31st anniversary of the Islamic Revolution in Iran. The colour green is significant as it’s the colour of protest since the controversial re-election of President Ahmadinejad in June last year.
