‘Responsible’ thief steals cargo bike, notices sleeping children and drops them off near home

A bicycle thief got the shock of his life last night after riding off with a Christiania transport bike in the city – three children were sleeping in the cabin.

The thief nabbed the bike outside a shop in the Nørrebro district while the children’s father was shopping.

When he discovered the children, aged seven, four and one, he asked the eldest child where they lived and promptly cycled them to their neighbourhood and delivered them to a neighbour.

The neighbour contacted the police and a 39-year-old man, suspected of the theft, was arrested soon after.

‘He actually acted very responsibly once he discovered the children,’ said duty officer Mads Firlings of the Copenhagen Police.
