Accused drug smuggler being extradited to US

E-mail Print

First ever extradition to a non-EU country for trial is likely to take place later this week

Camilla Broe, 42, will soon be extradited to the US to face charges of involvement in a drug smuggling ring, reports public broadcaster DR.

Broe has been charged with smuggling 160,000 ecstasy pills into Florida in 1998 when she lived there. She is also charged with selling illegal substances and money laundering.

Her August appeal to the Supreme Court was rejected and prosecutors with the North Zealand police said that she would be handed over to US law enforcement officers before the end of the week.

‘We still plan to extradite her, before the deadline for her imprisonment runs out on Friday,’ chief prosecutor Arne Stevns said.

If convicted, Broe could be sentenced to 63 years in prison.

She has previously said she intends to plead not guilty, reasoning that her ex-boyfriend threatened and forced her to participate in the smuggling.
