Illegal family relations between brother and sister results in a suspended jail sentence

A brother and sister both received a six month suspended sentence for breaking Denmark’s incest laws after a sexual encounter resulted in the birth of a baby girl.

The two siblings, who were described by the prosecutor as being in their mid-30s and of an ‘ordinary Danish background’, were charged with having at least one sexual encounter at the start of 2006, when they lived together in Germany. The relationship resulted in a daughter who is now two and a half years old.

According to the Hillerød Posten newspaper, the little girl is not aware of her unusual family situation.

The brother and sister pleaded guilty to the charge in the closed courtroom hearing at Hillerød district court today. Hillerød Posten reports that this is the first Danish case of its kind.
