Princesse Alexandras Vej road name switches to that of Prince Joachim’s current wife, Princess Marie

Alexandra Countess of Frederiksborg may have given up the title of Princess when she divorced Prince Joachim and remarried a civilian, but now she has lost out on another title to Joachim’s second wife, Princess Marie.

Skive Barracks in Mid-Jutland recently celebrated the 325th anniversary of the Engineer Regiment and Prince Joachim and Princess Marie were on hand to honour the occasion.

A small road on the military base that had been called Princesse Alexandras Vej (Princess Alexandra’s Road) was renamed Princesse Maries Vej, much to the delight of Marie.

Billed Bladet magazine reports that Marie was surprised with the gesture and asked to have her photo taken with the sign.

Charlotte Sølvbjerg, spokesperson for the barracks, said they did not feel it was fitting that the road continued to carry the name of Princess Alexandra and that the royal house had no objections to the move.

Isn't this an example of why roads, buildings and ships should not carry the names of living celebrities? Honour them when they have lasted the course, say I! Just like the Nobel peace Prize!

It's an example of pointlessness. As is it being reported and my commenting on it.

It has a point. It's the anodyne cult of monarchy.

No doubt they had all the pomp and pagentry on hand to ease the suffering. You saw nothing, it never happened... (wave hands mystically)
