Boy in coma | A 8-year-old boy is in a coma after being thrown from a ride at Sommerland amusement park in the Jutland town of Fårup on Sunday. Technicians at the site have not been able to determine yet why the rubber safety stop that prevents the doors on the park's 'Teacup' ride malfunctioned. The ride reopened Tuesday morning with metal plates having been added to the ride to provide extra security. (rc)
Ninja threatens Swedes | A Danish man dressed as a ninja warrior and waving a samurai sword was arrested Monday on the Swedish island of Öland, where he had demanded to know where the royal summer palace was located. It was the second time in the past week the 44-year-old Dane had to be confronted by police on the island. Last week the man publicly ripped up a copy of Ölandsbladet newspaper in the capital town square for writing stories about Sweden's crown princess, Victoria. Police may charge him with planning to attack the royal family. (rc)
Tourists flooding Denmark | Foreign tourists - particularly from Germany and the Netherlands - are coming by the hoards to Denmark, according to national tourist bureau VisitDenmark. The first five months of 2008 recorded over 200,000 more overnight stays by foreign tourists than in 2007 - a 4.1 percent increase. Dutch and German tourists make up around 180,000 of those additional overnight stays, according to the agency. (rc)
'Dogging' new pastime | Beach-loving Danes have a new hobby that is apparently catching on faster than a venereal disease - dogging. According to tabloid newspaper Ekstra Bladet, dogging is the rapidly growing practice of people meeting anonymously at a public place to have sex. The pastime is normally not pre-arranged and is primarily popular at certain beaches known for the activity. In addition, onlookers are welcome to watch participants in action. (rc)
