Fire at Holbæk Station will slow Monday’s commute
Residents in the northwest Zealand town of Holbæk were woken early this morning by police warning them to remain indoors with windows and doors closed after a fire broke out at Holbæk Station.
Police were concerned that thick black smoke billowing from a burning freight car and nearby building could have been toxic.
The contents of the freight car remain unidentified.
Three area residents were taken to Holbæk Hospital for observation after inhaling smoke, according to police.
The fire began at around 1:00am in the freight car before spreading to a building housing the computers that control the Oddsherred Line and the Høng-Tølløse Line.
Police called off the alarm about two hours later. They had originally been concerned that the nearby Holbæk Hospital would be affected by the smoke, but the wind carried most of it over the harbour area, say police.
Rail services between Tølløse Station and Kalundborg Station will be replaced by a bus service as investigators look into the cause of the blaze.
