Opposition economic plan comes under fire from PM

Lars Løkke Rasmussen was unusually harsh in his comments when speaking about the opposition’s economic plan

The Social Democrats and Socialist People’s Party’s ‘Fair Solution’ economic plan was ripped by Prime Minister Lars Løkke Rasmussen in an interview yesterday on TV2.

Rasmussen said the parties were carrying out ‘activities against the national interest’ – a term used after the Second World War to describe those who collaborated with the German occupiers.

The PM blamed the two parties for not taking their share of responsibility for the financial crisis. He added their efforts were concentrated exclusively on winning the next election.

The Social Democrats and Socialist People’s Party (SF) are poised to take over the government when the next parliamentary election is held sometime before November 2011.

During the interview, Rasmussen referred to the Fair Solution plan as ‘the world’s biggest voter deception’.
Mette Frederiksen, the Social Democrats’ vice-president, said Rasmussen’s ‘insults and patronising speeches wouldn’t help Denmark out of the financial crisis’.

The PM’s harsh comments came after several of the country’s labour unions raised questions about where the funding for the Fair Solution plan would come from.

Originally, union umbrella organisation LO had promised to raise 15 billion kroner for the plan through tripartite negotiations with a Social Democrat-SF government and employers, but it now believes those two parties must also contribute their fair share.

Thanks Lars, for finally stepping out of your typically Danish way of being mealy-mouthed and saying something direct.

I don't think the PM has dealt with his political problem of assigning a new Foreign minister to the Foreign ministry instead of backlashing his political opponents.
