Queen Margrethe didn’t just provide the artwork for new movie ‘De vilde Svaner’, she also appears in it

Eagle-eyed movie goers attending the newest Danish version of Hans Christian Andersen classic ‘The Wild Swans’, are in for a royal surprise.

If they watch closely enough and are able to recognise her in costume, they may be able to pick Queen Margrethe out from the crowd of peasants gathered to watch the execution of the film’s protagonist, Princess Elisa.

Even if moviegoers miss the queen’s cameo, they will be able to see her handwork during the entire film.

‘The Wild Swans’ (in Danish, ‘De vilde Svaner’) uses decoupage – paper cut out – made by the queen specifically for the film.

During the filming, live actors recorded scenes in front of a blank green back drop. The queen’s cut outs were later added using digital processing.
