Police are on watch for activists from Climate Justice Action who are planning to take over the Bella Center today

Activists networks Climate Justice Action and Climate Justice Now are planning to storm Bella Center today in protest at the ‘exclusionary tactics’ of negotiators.

At least 5000 protestors are expected to take part in the demo that gathered at Tårnby Station, about 3km from the UN venue at 8am this morning.

Organisers behind the “Reclaim the Power” protest said that negotiators at COP15 are failing the people they are suppose to represent and also took a dig at the UN registration mix-up that has seen thousands waiting in the cold because the venue is over-subscribed.

“It’s an historic coming together of organisations on the climate issue, both on the inside of these negotiations and those who have been excluded on the outside,” said Ann Petermann from the Global Ecology Justice Project.

The organisers are coordinating a mass-walkout of NGOs and delegates from the venue to coincide with the arrival of protestors outside.

Police have given the demonstration a permit, but have said no one without UN accreditation will pass the security cordon surrounding the Bella Center.

Protestors have stated that they don’t intend their efforts to turn violent, but are aiming to gain access to the venue to “talk about alternatives to the negotiations”, which CJA said is not providing real solutions.

Following the CJA press conference yesterday, police arrested the CJA spokesman and are charging him with planning violence. A number of modified bikes, to be used the protestors attempt to breach the venue, were also confiscated.
