South American presidents Hugo Chavez and Evo Morales among those to speak at Valbyhallen next week
Venezuelan president Hugo Chavez will link up with his Bolivian counterpart Evo Morales in Valbyhallen auditorium next Thursday to speak at a public meeting, according to Politiken.dk.
Additionally, Cuban vice-president Esteban Lazo, Nicaraguan foreign affairs minister Samuel Santos and Ecuadorian foreign affairs minister Fander Falconi are all due to attend.
The political leaders are reportedly in Copenhagen to attend the COP15 climate conference in the Bella Center. But the idea of the Valby meeting is allegedly to strengthen the solidarity of the anti-imperialistic struggle in Latin America.
’Denmark, the US and other rich coutnries’ scandalous behaviour at the climate summit confirms our worst fears about how the world’s biggest climate criminals are shirking their climate debts,’ said Sven-Erik Simonsen, from the ALBA cooperation, an organisation pushing for an economic and political union among Latin American countries.
‘We already sold over 2,300 tickets for the meeting last month, and people who have kept asking if the leaders were really coming can now be assured that they are,’ Simonsen told socialist workers’ publication Arbejderen.
Besides the speeches, there is an extensive music show scheduled that includes The Savage Rose, Tamra Rosanes, David Rovics, Los Alejandros, Wayna Rap, Røde Horn and dance troupe Somos una Venezuela.
