Nobel Peace Prize Laureate Desmond Tutu wants to help secure a successful climate deal in Copenhagen

South African cleric and former Nobel Peace Prize winner Desmond Tutu has been added to the list of prominent guests coming to Copenhagen this December for the climate summit.

Tutu is lined up to speak at City Hall on 13 December as part of Hopenhagen Live, reports DR News.

In a recent article, Tutu expressed his concern about the rapid environmental changes and called not just for climate change awareness but support for climate fairness at the Copenhagen meeting.

Tutu cited the recent UN list, which shows that 22 of the 28 countries most vulnerable to climate change are in Africa.

‘Normally, voices from places like Ethiopia, the Maldives and Kenya are sidelined in international forums. But this time it may be different, because a huge, positive and determined civil society movement is building around the world to support just, fair and scientific climate targets,’ Tutu wrote.
