More than 500 workers at an engine manufacturing plant in northern Jutland city lose their jobs
Engine manufacturing company MAN Diesel has laid off more than half of its 1,000 employees in Frederikshavn.
At a company-wide meeting today, 550 employees were handed pink redundancy slips after management at the German manufacturer indicated it was moving production from the northern Jutland city to Germany.
The workers will be out of a job from 3 September, reports public broadcaster DR.In February, MAN Diesel fired 170 of its employees based on sagging orders. The average annual production at the company has been around 200 engines per year. But this year there were 116 orders and only 53 are on the books for next year, meaning more layoffs could be on the way.
In addition to the Frederikshavn plant, MAN Diesel also has sales and administration offices in Copenhagen and at Holeby on Lolland.
